OBJECTIVE

This project consists of creating an infographic that pays attention to type and hierarchy by introducing a visually appealing, strong title, followed by a timeline and three other sections to accompany the design. My concept focuses on the evolution of Bossa Nova as told by Joao Gilberto, who is considered one of the founders of this Brazilian genre. There is a focus on typography, hierarchy, photography placement, and legibility.

SOLUTION

The infograph expresses vibrant hues including yellow-orange, turquoise, white, and maroon in contrast with black and white images that, reflect the historical context. The first section focuses on the introduction with a strong title and consists of a groovy serif font that expresses a sense of a “wave”. The choice of typeface for the titles of each section is called “Ipanema Secco” a unique curvilinear, humanistic, groovy style to replicate Brazilian culture in contrast to san serif paragraph text. An illustrative timeline of instruments from Bossa Nova and the breakdown of his life is followed by the origins of Bossa nova with a visual map inspired by African rhythm beats, Jazz in America, and the warmth of Brazil. The fourth section reveals the top songs of Joao Gilberto and explains the social and political awareness of how Bossa nova wasn't just a musical inspiration to the world but a sense of identity and expression.
